Special Edition

Special Edition (Volume I) relates today's political climates with that of early 20th century Europe through absurdity and sound. Influenced by Futurist and Dada sound poetry, advertising language from different periodicals are carved up and reconstituted, edited back into a new magazine. Read aloud, the sounds are delivered to the audience, and immediately mimicked back. This performance investigates the relationship of those who create messages and those who consume them.

Special Edition (Volume II) used the same tactics of redaction and elimination to respond to the conditions encountered during the spring and summer of 2020. The removal of figures from local periodicals resulted in a collection of shadows and silhouettes, conveying the unsettling lack of human presence while living under quarantine.
