Sous la Contrainte investigates the history of the west Texas frontier through sound.  Over time, Indigenous peoples, the Spanish, the French and the Americans occupied this land:  Borders and allegiances in this area have been transferred and redrawn multiple times, confirming its status as a historical zone of conflict.

The international signal for wilderness distress is three whistle blasts. Calling and responding to one another with their whistles, the performers contextualized the sound, simultaneously creating kinship with and recalling the distressed history of the site.
